Introduction to Standalone Alarm Panel

Run alarm logic locally on your Konnected Alarm Panel, even when your smart home platform is unavailable.

The Standalone Alarm System feature runs arming, disarming, zone monitoring, entry and exit delays, and alarm responses on the Konnected device itself. Your smart home platform provides the controls you use day to day, but the panel does not depend on that platform to monitor its wired zones or activate a locally connected siren.

For example, if Home Assistant goes offline after you arm the system, a monitored door connected to the panel can still trigger the siren response configured on that same panel.

Standalone Alarm System is a firmware feature, not a separate product. You enable and configure it in the Konnected Mobile App, then arm and disarm it from a supported smart home platform.

When to use Standalone Alarm System

Standalone Alarm System is a good fit when:

  • All of the sensors and alarm outputs that must work together are connected to one Konnected Alarm Panel.
  • You want local alarm behavior to continue if your smart home hub, cloud service, or network connection becomes unavailable.
  • You want to use Home Assistant, SmartThings, or Alexa to control the armed state.

Single-panel operation

Each Konnected board runs its own Standalone Alarm System. Two boards cannot combine their zones into one Standalone Alarm System or extend each other's zone capacity.

If you have more zones than one board can support, use your smart home platform as the alarm-system controller. Home Assistant can combine zones from multiple boards with its Manual Alarm Control Panel or Alarmo. SmartThings can combine them with SmartThings Home Monitor.

You can also enable Standalone Alarm System on more than one board. Each board then appears as a separate alarm system, and your smart home platform can coordinate them with automations.

Standalone Alarm System or Alarm System Interface

Use Standalone Alarm System when the Konnected panel replaces the traditional alarm-system controller and runs the alarm logic itself.

If you keep a traditional alarm panel and connect Konnected in parallel, use the Alarm System Interface feature instead. In that installation, the traditional panel remains the alarm-system controller. Do not enable Standalone Alarm System to mirror or control a separate traditional panel.

Armed modes

Standalone Alarm System supports these states:

  • Disarmed: Monitored zones do not trigger an alarm response. Door chimes can still operate if configured.
  • Armed Away: All enabled zones are monitored unless a zone is bypassed because it was left open.
  • Armed Home: Enabled zones are monitored except those you selected to bypass in Home mode.
  • Armed Night: An optional mode with its own zone-bypass choices.

What keeps working locally

After the panel is armed, these configured functions run on the panel:

  • Monitoring wired zones connected to that panel.
  • Applying each zone's trigger mode and armed-mode bypass settings.
  • Applying entry, exit, and arming delays.
  • Activating a connected siren, strobe, buzzer, or other configured alarm response.
  • Turning off the alarm response when the system is disarmed or cleared.

Remote controls, notifications, and automations provided by a smart home platform still depend on that platform and its connection to the panel.

Before you begin

  1. Install the current Konnected ESPHome firmware supported by your device.
  2. Add the device to the Konnected Mobile App and sign in to your Konnected Cloud account. The account is required to use Konnected's firmware configuration service.
  3. In the app, open the device and tap Settings.
  4. Configure your input and output zones before enabling Standalone Alarm System.
  5. Choose and connect a supported smart home platform.

The firmware built by Konnected does not communicate with Konnected Cloud unless you explicitly enable Konnected Cloud in the device settings. SmartThings and Alexa require Konnected Cloud; Home Assistant can connect locally through the ESPHome integration.
