Standalone Alarm Panel with Alexa

Control the Standalone Alarm System from Alexa with security-specific voice safeguards.

Alexa can discover the Standalone Alarm System as a security-panel device. You can use the Alexa app or voice requests to check its state, arm it in a supported mode, and disarm it with an Alexa voice code.

The panel still runs its configured zone monitoring, delays, and wired alarm responses locally. Alexa provides a remote control interface through Konnected Cloud.

Compatible devices

The device firmware must support both the ESPHome Standalone Alarm System and Konnected Cloud.

The original 6-zone ESP8266 Alarm Panels can run Standalone Alarm System with newer ESPHome firmware, but that firmware does not support Konnected Cloud on those boards. As a result, those boards cannot expose the Standalone Alarm device to Alexa.

Set up Alexa

1. Update the Konnected Mobile App to version 1.6.6 or later.
2. Select the Alarm Panel in the app and tap Settings.
3. Configure the input zones and alarm outputs.
4. Enable and configure Standalone Alarm System.
5. Give the alarm a short, distinct name, such as Konnected Alarm.
6. Enable Konnected Cloud.
7. Save and apply the firmware update.
8. In the Alexa app, enable the Konnected skill and link the same Konnected Cloud account.
9. Ask Alexa to discover devices, or run device discovery from the Alexa app.
10. Open the discovered security-panel device and confirm that its state matches the panel.

You can rename the device only in Alexa if you want a different spoken name without changing its name in other platforms.

Voice requests

Use the name shown in Alexa. For a device named Konnected Alarm, you can say:

• “Alexa, is Konnected Alarm armed?”
• “Alexa, arm Konnected Alarm.”
• “Alexa, arm Konnected Alarm in away mode.”
• “Alexa, arm Konnected Alarm in stay mode.”
• “Alexa, arm Konnected Alarm in night mode.”
• “Alexa, disarm Konnected Alarm.”

Alexa's response and available wording can vary by language, country, device, and enabled armed modes.

Enable disarming by voice

Alexa requires you to opt in before it will disarm a security system by voice. Open the security panel's settings in the Alexa app, enable disarming, and create an Alexa voice code.

When you ask Alexa to disarm, Alexa requests and validates that code before sending the disarm command.

Alexa limitations

• Alexa does not support a Routine triggered by the Standalone Alarm System entering its triggered state.
• Configure the wired siren or strobe as a local Alarm Response in the Konnected Mobile App. Do not depend on an Alexa Routine to activate the alarm output.
• Multiple Konnected boards appear as separate Standalone Alarm devices.

If Alexa shows the alarm offline

1. Confirm that the panel is online in the Konnected Mobile App.
2. Confirm that Standalone Alarm System and Konnected Cloud are enabled and that the latest firmware update completed.
3. From a device on the same network, open the panel's IP address in a browser to confirm that its local web page loads.
4. Restart the panel and run Alexa device discovery again.
5. Disable and re-enable the Konnected Alexa skill if the device remains stale.
